Romola

Branding, conceptualization, packaging design

May 2020

Romola is a high-end food and liquor boutique inspired by George Remus, better known as The King of Bootleggers. The name was inspired by the daughter of Imogene, Remus’ wife. George killed Imogene in front of Romola as an act of revenge. She stole all the fortune he made by illegally delivering large quantities of bourbon to his own drug companies during the Prohibition in America in 1920.

For the brand, we wanted to portray luxury, elegance, and sophistication in the packaging of the products the boutique sells, given that The Great Gatsby, written by Scott Fitzgerald, was inspired by no other than George Remus. Therefore, somebody would typically find these products at any of the fancy parties hosted by Remus. The labels in most packaging resemble a 1920s distillery label; the gold drops represent the blood that landed on Romola when George killed her mother in front of her.
